One more ferry to be deployed on Ust-Luga-Baltiysk service

The Ust-Luga-Baltiysk ferry line service will be expanded with the third vessel,  Kaliningrad Railway’s head Sergei Kolomeyets said at the 5th Baltic Transport Forum, PortNews correspondent reports. He declined to define the deadline.

Kolomeyets added that Russian Railways (RZD), expecting freight flow growth on Ust-Luga – Baltiysk line, mulls over investment in the Kaliningrad rail ferry facility.

The RZD regional branch official believes it would be reasonable to remove customs procedures on the line, as the services are carried out between Russian ports.

The Ust-Luga-Baltiysk rail and ferry service was launched in late 2010. The vehicle / railway ferry complex covers 38.2 ha in the port of Ust-Luga. The facility has 6 units of rolling stock and rail tracks of length of over 8.8 km. The complex projected capacity is 2.9 million tonnes per year.
