EU ports freight traffic set to rise by 1.5 times (yoy) - European Commission forecast

According to the EU Commission member Dimitrios Theologitis, who was speaking at the Baltic Ports Conference 2013 in Klaipeda, the EU ports are expected to see a 1.5 times gain year-over-year in cargo volumes by this year-end, a spokesperson for Morstroytechnology Alexander Goloviznin, who attends the event, told PortNews. The conference theme: “Challenges for the Baltic ports in future market conditions”.

Mr. Dimitrios Theologitis, Head of Unit "Ports & Inland Navigation", European Mobility Network Directorate, Directorate General for Mobility and Transport DG MOVE, European Commission said in his keynote speech: "Ports are engines of growth for the entire EU economy".

Mr. Teologitis told about new maritime transport-related initiatives of the European Commission. In particular, to raise funds from EU Commission the ports will have their business operations open and transparent.  

However, most of the participants of the conference did not support the idea, refusing to report to Brussels.
