Cargo throughput at the port of Helsinki in January-August 2013 fell 5% compared with the same period 2012, to 6.4 million tonnes, the Port Authority press release said.
Imports declined by 8% to 3.2 million tonnes, exports - by 1%, to 3.2 million tons. In August, the volume of unitized cargo to about 790,000 tonnes, a 2% drop year-on-year.
In August, monthly cargo volume reached 790,000 tonnes (-2%), including equal shares of imports (-5%) and exports (+1%). Over the same period, the port handled 1,100,000 passengers (+4%), including 106,400 passengers carried by ocean-going cruise liners.
In January-August, the port saw 7.4 million passengers, a nearly 1% gain from last year’s numbers, including 385,000 passengers on board international cruise ships.
