Unifeeder Shortsea starts up new Dunkerque-Russia weekly service.

To meet growing customer demands, Unifeeder is now expanding its extensive network with a new weekly service from Dunkerque in Northern France, the shipping company said in a press release.

From beginning November, the new traffic will provide one weekly service to St. Petersburg as well as connections via Rotterdam to the extensive Unifeeder network

“After a great success with the opening of our Antwerp to St. Petersburg service in the beginning of 2012 and with increasing cargo volumes from France, we feel confident that there is a highly interesting market in France”, says Simon H. Galsgaard, Director Shortsea Services.

With the new Dunkerque service, Unifeeder will also introduce reefer containers as an option for the food industry for this specific corridor. “We know that there is a big demand for reefer containers and we are therefore ready to offer high quality food graded equipment on the new service”, says Simon H. Galsgaard.

That Shortsea transportation is a more environmentally friendly solution compared to moving goods on train or road has long been known. More and more companies are looking for greener solutions, which makes Shortsea the perfect alternative with substantially lower CO2 emission than trucks. Also, France as a country shows an increased green focus with the introduction of the new ECO-tax on all French road transports.

Unifeeder will be represented in France by AMR-Agence Maritime Rommel S.A. wich was founded in 1930 and will represent Unifeeder on a dedicated basis. “We are very delighted with this new opportunity and are looking forward to a close cooperation with Unifeeder”, says Patrick Guermeur, Managing Director AMR.

This is the first time that Unifeeder Shortsea is represented in France. “AMR knows the local market and we have a strong belief in the potential of our new cooperation. This expansion is very much in line with our strategy to move closer to our customers. Last year we opened up sales offices in Moscow and Düsseldorf as a part of this strategy”, says Simon H. Galsgaard, Director Shortsea Services.
