Arctic projects should be serviced with low power nuclear facilities - Kurchatov Institute

Arctic projects on production of hydrocarbons should be supported by the development of innovative nuclear facilities of low power, IAA PortNews journalist cites Vyacheslav Kuznetsov, Deputy Director of National Research Centre Kurchatov Institute, as saying at RAO/CIS Offshore 2013.

According to him, low power nuclear facilities are more sustainable and economically efficient and they have practically no alternatives when it comes to production platforms. Besides, low power nuclear facilities are much safer as compared with high-capacity nuclear plants.

"Low power facilities are an absolutely different atomic engineering,” Kuznetsov says.
