In the 8-month period of 2013, international transport corridors of Ukraine carried about 134 mln t of cargo (+2%, year-on-year), says Ukraine’s Minister of Infrastructure. Export flows increased by 4.039 mln t (+3.8%) while import and transit flows dropped by 1.174 mln t (-4.7%) and 0.187 mln t (4.7%) respectively.
However, infrastructure of almost all corridors has a higher capacity. To prevent the decline of the current cargo flows and attraction of new cargoes, Ukrainian Railways has developed and approved a plan of activities for 2013.
To retain transit volumes towards commercial seaports, Ukraine suggests that ITC should include the line of Russia (Valuiki) - Black Sea ports: from border station Topolya to Odessa, Nikolayev, Kherson, Sevastopol, Feodosiya and Kerch.
Ukraine also participates in an international project on construction of a broad-gauge line Koshitse-Bratislava-Vienna (Eurasian railway corridor). Ukraine has already commenced the construction of the Beskid tunnel.
