12th International Shipping, Shipbuilding and Offshore Energy Exhibition Neva-2013 has opened today, September 24, 2013, in Lenexpo Exhibition Center (Saint-Petersburg), IAA PortNews journalist reports.

In his opening speech, Saint-Petersburg Vice-Governor Igor Golikov underlined that this event is “a good and rational tradition as shipbuilding is one of the most significant industries in Saint-Petersburg”.

“Saint-Petersburg is the city of the leading Russian shipyards, industry-focused and scientific-research institutes determining the policy of the entire shipbuilding in Russian. Our enterprises produce about one third of all shipbuilding products in Russia and account for over 70% of export shipbuilding”, - Golikov said.

According to him, almost all shipyards are in stable financial position today with a backlog of orders covering a long period of time.

The Ministry of Transport was represented by Konstantin Palnikov, Director of the Transport Ministry’s Department of State Policy for Marine and River Transport. He noted that the Transport Ministry has begun to look at the NEVA Exhibition as “not just the place to demonstrate industry achievements but also the place for substantial discussions”.

Palnikov underlined that the exhibition has become a source of the latest and most advanced ideas in the transport industry.

“As of today, federal executive authorities face the challenge of ensuring efficient use of budgetary funds as well as efficient implementation of required activities,” said deputy head of Rosmorrechflot Aleksandr Poshivai.
