90% of Russia’s river fleet will be decommissioned in Russia during a 10-year period, IAA PortNews journalist cites Dmitry Rogozin, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and Chairman of the Marine Board under the Government of the Russian Federation, as saying at the Board meeting. According to him, the renovation of the river and mixed river-sea fleet requires state support encouraging the ship owners to order vessels from domestic shipyards. Rogozin said such measures could include subsidizing of interest rates and the creation of utilization funds. For this purpose, he thinks, an adequate regulatory background should be developed in the country.
Besides, the head of the Marine Board under the Government of the Russian Federation emphasized that the shipbuilding should feature series principle of construction to decrease vessel production costs.
