Throughput of port Riga (Latvia) down 3.6% to 26.4 mln t Jan-Sep’13
In January-September, 2013, Freeport of Riga (Latvia) handled 26,399,200 tonnes of cargo (-3.6%, year-on-year), IAA PortNews learnt from the port authority. According to the statement, coal transshipment dropped by 8.1% to 10,263,900 tonnes, oil product – by 10.5% to 5,493,100 tonnes, wood chips – by 6.6% to 710,200 tonnes, grain – by 71.7% to 152,500 tonnes, while transshipment of chemical cargoes climbed by 6.7% to 1,183,300 tonnes.
The port’s container throughput climbed by 3% to 283,231 TEUs, transshipment of Ro-Ro cargoes increased by 3.1% to 453,500 tonnes.
Freeport of Riga lies on both banks of the River Daugava covering 6.3 hectares. The port’s berth length is 13,800 meters, maximum draft at the berths is 12.2 meters. Up to 80% of the Freeport of Riga cargo turnover is made up of transit cargoes forwarded to or received from the CIS countries. In 2012, Freeport of Riga increased its throughput by 5.8%, year-on-year, to 36,051,900 tonnes of cargo.
