Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) has slated the new aircraft carrier's launching ceremony for 10:00 a.m., Oct. 11, the shipbuilder said Wednesday in a news release.
The shipyard will begin flooding of Dry Dock 12 where the the aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) has been under construction since November 2009. The sponsor is Susan Ford Bales, daughter of the ship's namesake.
