Jan de Nul N.V. completes first phase of dredging operations in port Sabetta (photo)

Belgian dredging company Jan de Nul N.V. has completed preparatory operations in port Sabetta being built in the Arctic, says press center of Federal Marine and River Transport Agency. The port is destined for LNG transportation and round-the-year navigation along the Northern Sea Route.

The operations involved 18 vessels. They commenced with the beginning of summer navigation in 2013. From August 2 till October 9, the company dredged 10 mln cbm of material.

Dredging operations in port Sabetta have been ordered by FSUE Rosmorport. General contractor on construction of Sabetta port facilities is JSC USK MOST. The dredging project is scheduled for completion in 2016. During the 2014-2016 period, the fleet of Jan De Null is expected to dredge up to 70 million cbm of material. The seaway canal will be 49 km long, 295 m wide and 14 m deep. The length of the approach canal will be 5.66 km, width – 495 m, depth - 14 m. Port Sabetta will be capable of handling gas carriers with length of up to 300 m, width of up to 50 m and cargo tanks capacity of up to 170,000 cbm.

The port is being built within the framework of Yamal LNG project. Yamal LNG project envisages the construction of an LNG plant with annual capacity of 16.5 million tonnes per annum based on the feedstock resources of the South-Tambeyskoye field. According to the PRMS reserve standards, the proven and probable reserves of the South-Tambeyskoye field as of 31 December 2012 were appraised at 907 billion cubic meters of natural gas. Yamal LNG is currently owned by NOVATEK and TOTAL.
