In January-September, 2013, the ports of China increased their throughput by 10.3%, year-on-year, to 7.94 bln t, says the Ministry of Transport of the Government of the People's Republic of China. In the accounting period seaports of China handled 5.46 bln t of cargo (+10.4%), river ports – 2.48 bln t (+10%).
Container throughput gained 7.5% to 140.87 mln TEUs including 125.7 mln TEUs in seaports (+8%) and 15.17 mln TEUs in river ports (+8.3%).
In 2012, throughput of Chinese ports climbed by 6.8% to 9.74 bln tonnes.
