In January-September 2013, Tuapse Commercial Seaport OJSC handled 8.8 mln t (-29%, year-on-year), the stevedore’s press center announced.
According to the statement, the decline should be attributed to a 35-pct decrease in transshipment of oil cargoes to 4.9 mln t caused by reduced export flows of crude oil and reconstruction of Tuapse refinery.
In the accounting period, transshipment of dry cargo dropped by 19% to 3.9 mln t mainly due to the fall of grain transshipment caused by unfavorable situation in grain export market. In January-September, Tuapse Commercial Seaport handled 367,000 t of grain (-76%, year-on-year). Transshipment of ferrous metal increased by 30% to 1.3 mln t while coal transshipment remained flat at the level of 2.1 mln t.
With the growing demand for raw sugar from Russia’s domestic market and CIS countries its transshipment surged 3.6 times to 98,000. Import of fruits and vegetables declined by 10% to 57,000 t because of limited automobile traffic at Dzhugba-Sochi highway.
Transshipment of export cargoes making the core of the company’s cargo flow fell by 29% to 8.7 mln t, while import boosted by 72% to 157,000 t.
In January-September 2013, Tuapse Commercial Seaport handled 420 cargo vessels (including 243 dry cargo carriers and 177 oil vessels) and 59,814 railway cars.
Tuapse Commercial Seaport OJSC is the main operator at the port of Tuapse, one of Russia’s largest ports. It is a part of UCL Port, stevedoring division of international transport group UCL Holding. UCL Port also consolidates OJSC Sea Port St. Petersburg, CJSC Container Terminal Saint Petersburg, Universal Handling Terminal LLC based in North-West of Russia, and Taganrog port in the South. In 2012, Tuapse Commercial Seaport handled 16.4 mln t of cargo.
