The construction of LNG terminal which can also be used for bunkering of vessels is under consideration at port Vyborg (Leningrad region). As IAA PortNews learnt from a source close to the project this idea is stipulated by the Nord Stream gas line running there.
The project is being considered by one of Gazprom structures. The terminal capacity is under consideration but it is not to be high, the source explained.
Besides, within a month or two, a decision is to be made as regards the site for construction of LNG plant at the Baltic Sea, with the capacity of 10 mln t per year. It can be located near the port of Ust-Luga or Primorsk.
The port of Vyborg was founded in 1293 on the crossroads of waterways between the Gulf of Finland and the navigable system of the Saimaa lakes and the Vuoksa river. There are 13 berths in the port now (with total length of 1,480 running meters). They stretch along the coastline of the Vyborg Bay. In 2012, the port’s throughput increased by 33% to 1,462,400 tonnes.
