Commander of the Seventh Coast Guard District of Miami (Florida, USA) Rear Admiral J.H.Korn has sent his sincere appreciation to Aleksey Pchelintsev, Captain of M/V Shah Deniz  (Palmali Group) for the assistance to the crewmembers of the Sailing Ship Moon Shadow in saving a person, Palmali Group says.

On the afternoon of June 24, 2013, the Coast Guard Rescue Coordination Center (RCC) Miami received a report through Coast Guard Sector Miami of the S/V Moon Shadow, who reported a person on board had jumped overboard 11 nautical miles west of Cat Cay, Bahamas. The S/V Moon Shadow reported the person would not take life saving devices and was unwilling to re-embark the sailing vessel due to a domestic dispute.

RCC Miami launched a Coast Guard MH-65 helicopter and directed Coast Guard Station Miami to launch their small boat. Coast Guard Sector Miami contacted the Shah Deniz tanker which quickly responded and diverted without hesitation.

The M/V Shah Deniz maneureved alongside the sailing vessel and safely embarked the person in the water. Then it rendezvoused and transferred the survivor to a Coast Guard Station Miami small boat that transferred the survivor to local authorities in Miami, Florida.

According to the letter “the humanitarian actions taken by the crew of Shah Deniz and the Capatain are in keeping with the highest traditions of professional mariners in the maritime community”.
