Board of Directors NV Railport Antwerp sets out beacons for rail transport

On Friday 11 October the first meeting of the Board of Directors of NV Railport Antwerp was held. This NV, a joint initiative of the Antwerp Port Authority and the Essenscia Flanders and Alfaport umbrellas federations, is commissioned to work out specific projects and launch proposals to stimulate rail transport in the Port of Antwerp, the company said in its press release.

The Board of Directors has given the green light for the launch of an in-depth study into streamlining rail operations in the port. Every day many hundreds of wagons are transported between the Antwerp-North shunting yard and the individual companies in the port area. This so-called “single wagon load traffic” is essential for the chemical industry and other crucial goods flows such as steel transport. The aim is to have specific proposals on the table to further strengthen this transport system by the end of this year.
