Ice conditions in the Gulf of Finland are forecasted to follow the scenario of a moderate winter in 2013-2014. According to press center of the Department Roshidromet on North West Federal District, ice thickness in the majority of districts is expected to stay within long-time annual average.
Ice formation is to begin in the Neva Bay and adjacent territories in late November – early December.
The most probable time for drifting ice to reach the longitude of the Seskar island in late December, the longitude of the Gogland island – in the third decade of January.
The peak of ice situation is expected in the second decade of March. 50-65 –cm thick shore ice will reach the longitude of the Tolbukhin lighthouse. The heaviest, mostly solid, deformed drifting ice, mostly 30 – 50 cm thick is expected to reach the longitude of the Gogland island. Further, till the longitude of Tallin, - drifting ice with concentration of 7-8 tenth and thickness of 10-30 cm. Temporary ice can possibly appear up to the longitude of the Ristna lighthouse.
