Black Sea container terminals of Romania, Ukraine Russia, Georgia and Bulgaria handled almost 1.96 mln TEUs including empty containers without transshipment, says review provided by Informall to IAA PortNews.
The review covers only loaded containers, transshipment of which hit 1,359,562 TEU (+10.95%, year-on-year).
Black Sea region, 9-month period of 2013 and 2012, TEU loaded
The highest growth was demonstrated by Ukraine.
Import accounted for 61.66% of loaded containers handled in the region in the 9-month period of 2013, export – 38.34%. The proportion of loaded/empty containers in the region was 69.50% / 30.50%.
As compared with the similar period in 2012, export of loaded containers from the Black Sea countries increased by 17.76% with Ukraine having demonstrated the highest growth – 53.35%, Romania – 22.80%. However, export dropped in Russia, Georgia and Bulgaria. As for import, it climbed by 7.11% manly owing to Russia – 13.02%. Import volumes increased in all countries except for Romania, which demonstrated a slight decline in the reported period.

So, in the 9-month period of 2013, Ukraine handled 34.15% of the total volume, Russia – 25.16%, Romania – 20.94%, Georgia – 12.08%, Bulgaria – 7.67%.
The top five container terminals in the region have not changed their positions: DPW (Constanta), HPC Ukraina (Odessa), Novoroslesexport (Russia), CTI (Ilyichevsk), APMT Poti (Georgia). All of them increased their volumes except for CTI.
As for line operators, neither the list, nor the positions changed in 9M’13: MSC, Maersk Line, ZIM and CMA CGM. The above container lines control 64.06% of the Black Sea market in total volume of loaded containers.
From the middle of September 2013, G6 alliance (Hapag Lloyd, OOCL, MOL, NYK, HMM, APL) has considerably reorganized its service. Nevertheless, the alliance members have increased their share in the market of loaded containers from 7.37% to 10.52%.
