    Klaipėda Port and in Būtingės terminal total throughput up to 35,66 mln. tn in January-October of 2013

    The total throughput of Klaipėda Port and in Būtingės terminal within the period of January-October of 2013 totalled 35,66 mln. tn of seaborne cargo, the aggregate change of cargo handling turnover was -1,1 pct. if to compare with the corresponding period of 2012. The cargo handling turnover in Klaipėda Port within the analysed period reached 28,06 mln. tn, the year-on-year change was -3,7 pct. or -1 082,3 thou. tn, meanwhile 7,9 mln. tn of cargo were handled at Butingės terminal, the year-on-year change being +9,7 pct. or +671,1 thou. tn, the company said in its press release.

    Comparing with the corresponding period of 2012 the most significant growth of cargo handling volumes in Klaipėda Seaport and at Būtingės terminal in January – October of 2013 was reached again due to increased handling rates of liquid cargoes: 15 331,3 thou. tn or more by 18,4 thou. tn comparing with the corresponding period of 2012 were handled. The highest handling rates were recorded in the handling turnover of crude oil : 7 590,6 thou. tn were handled, the year-on-year change was +9,7 pct. or +671,1 thou. tn. Notwithstading that within the period of ten months the handling rates of oil and oil products contracted by 7,9 pct. or by 534 thou. tn to 6 238,6 thou. tn comparing with the corresponding period of the previous year, the ovearll turnover of oil and oil products constitute 22,2 pct. of all cargoes handled in the Port.

    In terms of cargo groups the handling volumes of dry and bulk cargo in Klaipeda Seaport marked the decrease by -1,8 pct. yoy to 11 407,5 thou. tn. The most significant growth of handling rates of cargoes belonging to this cargo group has been recorded in the handling volumes of agriculture products (2 467,9 thou. tn, +31,4 pct. or +590,2 thou. tn yoy) and raw and processed minerals and construction materials ( 1 787,1 thou. tn, +15,4 pct. or +238,8 thou. tn yoy). Regardless of the highest decrease rate recorded in the handling turnover of natural and chemical fertilizers (-15,3 pct. or -1 013,1 thou. tn yoy), the handling volumes of this cargo type were the highest – 5 621,5 thou. tn.

    The drop of general cargo handling volumes (- 2,4 pct.) in Klaipeda Seaport has started from the very beginning of the year. Only 8 921,7 thou. tn of general cargo were handled in January – October of 2013. The significant decrease of handling turnover was recorded in the following groups of cargo: packed natural and chemical fertilizers (361,1 thou. tn, -16,9 pct. or -73,5 thou. tn yoy), timber and forest products (400,7 thou. tn, -11,9 pct. or -53,9 thou. tn yoy) and Ro-Ro cargoes ( 3 911,2 thou. tn, -4 pct. or -164,3 thou. tn yoy). The handling turnover of containerised cargoes in terms of TEU increased and reached 336 712 TEU within the period of January - Ocyober of 2013 (+7,1 pct. or +22 226 TEU yoy).

    Altogether 5 777 vessels were reported to call Klaipėda Port and Būtingės terminal in January – October of 2013. 76 vessels (+10,1 pct. or more by 7 vessels yoy) moored at Būtingės terminal. Klaipėda Seaport received 5 701 vessel (less by -3,5 pct. or by 205 vessels comparing with the corresponding period of 2012 ).

    The number of passengers within the analysed period was 309 837 passengers, i.e. more by 6 740 passengers comparing with the corresponding period of the previous year.
