LNG-powered container carrier will save about $10 per TEU, analysts say
A container carrier powered by a liquefied natural gas (LNG) will save about $10 per TEU against a vessel working on conventional fuel, IAA PortNews journalist cites David Bull, Senior Consultant of Ocean Shipping Consultants, as saying at VIII annual international congress Oil Terminal held in Saint-Petersburg. According to him, $9-$12 per TEU can be saved by an ocean-going container carrier of average capacity working at the route S. Korea - Rotterdam. The calculations have been based on LNG prices in S. Korea.
A feeder service carrier can save about $5 per TEU.
The calculations have taken into account that LNG fuel system requires 2-5% more space.
