There is a buoyant domestic demand for shipbuilding products in Russia, which is the “best card” for the development of national shipbuilding. According to IAA PortNews journalist, this opinion was expressed by Mikhail Remizov, Chairman of the Presidium of the Military-Industrial Commission’s Expert Board under the Government of the Russian Federation, President of National Strategy Institute, at the All-Russia Forum “Shipbuilding and Shipping in Russia: new solutions and economic efficiency” being held in Moscow.
Mikhail Remizov said Rosneft alone could require shipbuilding products for RUB 400-500 bln from 2017. According to the expert, it would not be good to spend them for foreign economies. Therefore, adequate facilities should be built in Russia.
Mikhail Remizov also emphasized that Russia can’t just concentrate on the segment of hi-end shipbuilding – other countries including S. Korea also enter this segment.
The expert thinks it would not be right to let joint stock companies regulate the shipbuilding industry. Moreover, it is time to think about the increase of the number of officials in state bodies regulating the sector as well as managers in United Shipbuilding Corporation.
He also says we lack a “through executive” in the industry. Besides, in his opinion, industry positions should be held by narrow professionals.
