Throughput of port Riga (Latvia) down 1.6% to 35.466 mln t in 2013

In January-December 2013, Freeport of Riga (Latvia) handled 35,466,700 t of cargo (-1.6%, year-on-year). As IAA PortNews learnt from the port authorities, coal transshipment fell by 5.8% to 14,041,800 t, oil products – by 8.4% to 7,030,200 t, wood chips – by 13.9% to 907,100 t, grain – by 42.6% to 394,100 t, chemical cargoes – by 0.3% to 1,414,000 t.

The port’s container throughput increased by 5.2% to 381,099 TEUs.Tran of ro-ro cargo climbed by 1.9% to 596,700 t.

Freeport of Riga lies on both banks of the River Daugava covering 6.3 hectares. The port’s berth length is 13,800 meters, maximum draft at the berths is 12.2 meters. Up to 80% of the Freeport of Riga cargo turnover is made up of transit cargoes forwarded to or received from the CIS countries. In 2012,  Freeport of Riga increased its throughput by 5.8%, year-on-year, to 36,051,900 tonnes of cargo.
