US Coast Guard has published the chart of major icebreakers of the world. In terms of number, Russia is well ahead of other countries (37 operating icebreakers), then comes Sweden and Finland (7 icebreakers each) followed by Canada (6 icebreakers), USA (5 icebreakers) and Denmark (4 icebreakers). China, Argentina, Australia, Chili, Estonia, Japan, S. Korea, S. Africa, Latvia and Norway have one icebreaker each. Russia is the only country to operate nuclear icebreakers.
Icebreakers of the Russian Federation are owned by FSUE Rosmorport, Far East Shipping Company (diesel-electric icebreakers) and FSUE Atomflot (nuclear icebreakers).
