Throughput of HaminaKotka port (Finland) down 3.6% to 14 mln t in 2013

In January-December 2013, the Port of HaminaKotka (Finland) handled 14 mln t of cargo (-3.6%, year-on-year), says press center of HaminaKotka Satama Oy.

Transshipment of export cargo dropped by 6.3%, import – increased by 1.8%, transit dropped by 13.4%.

The port’s container throughput declined by 0.7% to 4,118 TEUs. Transshipment of automobiles dropped by  21.3% to 24,646 units.

The Port of HaminaKotka Ltd is the biggest universal, export and transshipment port in Finland. Finland’s ports of Kotka (stevedoring company Kotkan Satama Oy) and Hamin (Haminan Satama Oy) merged on May 1, 2011. In 2012, throughput of the joined port fell by 9.6% to 14.521 mln tonnes.

The Port of Kotka is some 50 km from the Russian border, 280 km from St. Petersburg and 1,000 km from Moscow. Port of Kotka comprises ports of Mussalo, Hietanen, Kantasatama, berth Puolanlaituri (Polish berth), berth Halla, and also port premises Sunila. Port of Hamina is the eastern port of Finland located 35 km from the Russian border.
