Severnaya Verf is to get RUB 741 mln through reallocation of resources under federal special-purpose programme “Development of civil marine facilities in 2009-2016”. According to the draft amendments into the programme, the resources are to be releases with reduction of allocations for R & D works in 2014 (RUB 238 mln) and in 2015 (RUB 503 mln).
The St. Petersburg-based Severnaya Verf Shipyard’s history dates back to 1912. Now it is a leading shipbuilding company of the Russian defense industry. The shipyard specializes in building cruisers, destroyers, minesweepers, patrol vessels and submarines destroyers, research and passenger vessels, timber cargo carriers, trawlers, container ships and ro-ro vessels for the Russian Defense Ministry and foreign customers.
Russian Gov’t picked Severnaya Verf Shipyard as the main contractor for the frigate and corvette class ships (Project 22350, Project 2038/20385). The company was included in the register of the Federal Service for Defense Contracts (Rosoboronzakaz) of sole suppliers of Russian weapons and military equipment and is the sole contractor for communications ships of Project 18280.
