Chart Ferox to provide LNG fuel storage and processing equipment for the LNG-Hybrid Barge

Chart Ferox reports a contract with Germany’s Hybrid Port Energy, a subsidiary of Becker Marine, to provide LNG fuel storage and processing equipment for the LNG-Hybrid Barge, which will provide electricity for Aida cruise ships in Hamburg’s HafenCity, the company said in its press release.

Chart Ferox is supplying two 40-foot ISO intermodal LNG containers and a skid mounted gas processing unit for the Becker-Marin Hybrid Port Energy power barge, along with connecting equipment, controls, safety appliances and associated piping.

The barge will allow the ships to maintain power during layovers without burning any diesel fuel (HHP Insight, September 1, 2012).
Chart’s onboard LNG system for the unique vessel includes a pair of 40-foot intermodal ISO LNG containers and a skid-mounted GPU, or gas processing unit, “along with connecting equipment, controls, safety appliances and associated piping.”
“LNG will be supplied in modular form using ISO containers swapped on a full-for-empty basis to eliminate the need for a dedicated bunkering station,” Chart says.
