Karstensen Shipyard gets order for a 87,80 m Purser / Trawler from Ruth A/S

Owners Ruth A/S has placed an order for a 87,80 m Purser / Trawler with Karstensen Shipyard, the company said in its press release. The vessel will be a top modern pelagic purser / trawler containing all the newest equipment and machinery. The vessel is a result of an extensive and close cooperation between owners and yard. Advisors and bank relations of both yard and owners have also contributed advantageous to an effective decision process.

To the best knowledge of both owners and yard new Ruth will be the first vessel of its kind equipped for fishing 2 trawls / twin-rig. Accordingly the vessel will be equipped with 3 trawl winches, 4 net drums and 2 fish pump positions at the stern. Like the other vessels, currently under construction at Karstensen Shipyard, also newbuilding will be in-house designed.

Fishing company Ruth Ltd was established in 1988 by Gullak Madsen with 2 partners, by means of the purchase of Arica I (now Dona Maria/Chile). This vessel was renamed "Ruth", and present vessel is number 4 with same name. Current skippers. Ole Nattestad and Mikkjael Godtfred on existing "Ruth" will also take command of the new vessel.

Owners and yard have a well-established and long-standing relationship. It has been of high importance to the owners, to have full influence throughout the design process, in order for the vessel to be customized to fit the requirements of the owners, focusing on innovative solutions creating a safe and comfortable working environment onboard. Both owners and yard are looking forward to get started with the building process. The concept of Ruth is considered to be both economically and technically very attractive.

With regards to choice of suppliers, owners has focussed on innovation, quality and reliability. There new vessel will include a large number of danish supplies, many of which are actually very local in the Jutland area. The main engine will be a (german-built, but danish handled) MAN 8L32/44 CR delivering 4800 kW. This will, as a matter of fact, be the first MAN common-rail main engine ordered for the danish fishing fleet. Auxiliary engines will be of type Cummins, supplied by local company Østergaard. Johnson Controls (danish subsidiary: Sabroe) will supply RSW-plant and Iras will supply vacuum unloading system.

During last 2 years Karstensen Shipyard has delivered 9 pelagic fishing vessels (Gollenes, Paula, Leinebjørn, Havsnurp, Cattleya, Rogne, Asbjørn Selsbane and Herøyhav): With new Ruth the order book comprises 6 vessels (of which 5 are pelagic fishing vessels) be delivered during the next 2 years.
New Ruth is scheduled for delivery in March 2016. Price indication: DKK 250 m / 34m EUR.
