Cargo delivery to Belgrano-2 Argentine Antarctic Station completed
The Kapitan Dranitsyn icebreaker has completed providing ice escort and ice towing of the Vasiliy Golovnin ship, which have carried equipment, personnel, food and other provision to the Argentine Antarctic Station Belgarno-2 located in the southern part of the Weddell Sea, Rosmorport says in its press release.
The ice escort of Vasiliy Golovnin was performed as requested by Arkadia PTE, LTD. Its success was ensured by efficient and well-coordinated work of all the creq members of Kapitan Dranitsyn. During the voyage the icebreaker crew frequently conducted damage control exercices to prepare for work in the harsh ice conditions of Antarctica.
Since 17 December 2013, which is the date when Kapitan Dranitsyn left Murmansk Seaport, the icebreaker sailed 10.6 thousand sea miles, including more than 2.9 miles in ice.
At present the icebreaker is going to Murmansk Seaport, its arrival is expected in the second decade of March 2014.
Kapitan Dranitsyn is a diesel icebreaker ranked KM(★) LL3[2] AUT2 with the power of 24 000 h.p, a 45-milimeter hull and the tonnage of almost 12.3 tons. It is certified according to the international standards as a special-purpose vessel and designed to work in the harsh conditions of arctic seas.
