In addition to the cooperation agreement signed between the Brazilian Ministry of Transport in September 2013, APEC-Antwerp/Flanders Port Training Center, affiliated to the Antwerp Port Authority, will also cooperate more with the private maritime sector in Brazil. Mr Paul Verkoyen, CEO of APEC, confirms that meanwhile more than 300 Brazilian port professionals have been trained by APEC in Antwerp. As from this year APEC will kick off with several tailor made seminars in various Brazilian ports whereas numerous of participants are expected, the company announces in its press release.
APEC signed an agreement with the Brazilian Grupo Bertin on Wednesday March 5th, 2014 whereas APEC is requested to execute an analysis with regard to the training needs as for port related issues for Grupo Bertin and its affiliates. Based on this analysis a dedicated training package will be elaborated. The Brazilians will be trained in Antwerp as well as in Brazil.
Grupo Bertin is a very important Brazilian player active in various sectors such as energy, public works and transport infrastructure. Grupo Bertin’s daughter organisation Contern will start in the near future with the project ViaMar whereas the congestion issues for the port city Santos will be dealt with. The Antwerp concepts for the improvement of port logistics and the use of logistics zones in the port and the hinterland, which have been proven successfully, will as such be implemented. In this respect discussions have also been started for possible assistance of Port of Antwerp International, the second affiliate of the Antwerp Port Authority with Mr. Jan Blomme, managing director.
