Port of Sabetta project gets EIA approval

JSC Lenmorniiproekt has obtained a positive Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) conclusion on the Port of Sabetta project from the state ecological expertise, Lenmorniiproekt said in a press release.

Approval of the project documentation "Construction of a Seaport Near Sabetta on the Yamal Peninsula, including the construction of an access shipping channel in the Ob Bay" (with changes and updates) was approved by the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources (02.17.2014, No 95).

The changes in the project documentation deal with engineering solutions for IPS, Ice Protection Structures (IPS) facilities, including reclamation to create artificial land, in accordance with the decree of the Russian Government (11.22.2013, No 2164-R) and the construction phase of the sea and access channels as subjects to federal property.

The expert ecological commission found the submitted project documentation comply with requirements of the Russian legislation in the field of environmental protection.

Yamal LNG project includes the construction of a liquefied natural gas (LNG). The plant will consist of three liquefaction trains with overall capacity of 16.5 million tons per annum. Start of commissioning works at the first liquefaction train is scheduled for 2016 with the planned commercial launch of the first LNG train in 2017. The Project also requires the construction of transport infrastructure including a sea-port facility and an international airport located at Sabetta (north-east of the Yamal Peninsula). Up to 16 ice-class LNG carriers of special ARC-7 design will be used to effect year-round transportation of LNG to international markets. The “Yamal LNG” shareholders are now OAO NOVATEK and Total.
