ZNT Yard lays keel of 10th serial SAR boat for Defense Ministry (photo)
Nizhegorodsky Teplokhod Shipyard (ZNT Yard) on March 12, 2014 held a keel-laying ceremony for the tenth vessel in a series of 16 offshore search-and-rescue (SAR) boats of ZNT 23040 design ordered for the Russian Defense Ministry, the shipbuilder said Wednesday in a press release.
The state contract for sixteen 23040-series SAR boats was signed by the Russian Ministry of Defense and ZNT Yard in late March 2013.
The shipyard completed and delivered to the Navy's Black Sea, Novorossiysk four newbuilds by the end of 2013.
The delivery program for this year includes six vessels: 3 - for the Astrakhan based Caspian Flotilla and 3 - for the Baltic Fleet in Kronstadt. To date, the shipyard has laid keels of five vessels (hull numbers 1105-1109). Two boats (Hull No 1105 and 1106) will be launched shortly. Other vessels (numbers 1107, 1108 and 1109) are undergoing different phases, from fabrication and assembly to outfitting.
All six boats delivery is scheduled for the end of 2014.
In 2015 the shipbuilder plans to hand over 6 vessels to the Kronstadt-based Baltic Fleet.
The 23040 design boat is an evolution of a series of ten serial diving support vessels (DSV) of A160 design (Hull No No 801-810) built at ZNT Yard in 2010-2012 for the Russian marine search and rescue service Gosmorspassluzhba of Russia, and of a diving boat of ZT28D «Pelican", developed by ZNY Yard's in-house design bureau.
Compared with previous Flamingo series boats and their successors, the 14157-series boats, the 23040 design boat feature larger dimensions, enhanced power and ice class that enable them to operate safely beyond littoral areas, up to 50 miles offshore.
Vessel's general characteristics: length overall – 28.09 m, breadth overall – 5.56 m, depth aforeship – 3.4 m, draft – 1.5 m, full displacement – about 118 tonnes, main engine - 2х441 kW, diesel-generator - 2х80 kW, emergency diesel generator - 1х20 kW, operational speed – about 13.7±0.3 knots. Accommodation for 3 crew and 5 divers.
