Baltiysk ferry starts working (photo)
After completion of the planned repairs on 15 March 2014 the sea cargo ferry Baltiysk, operated by LLC Black Sea Ferry Investments on the basis of a bareboat charter made with FSUE “Rosmorport”, left Ust-Luga Seaport and delivered 82 rail cars with cargo and 9 vehicles to the railway ferry complex in Kaliningrad Seaport, Rosmorport says.
The Baltiysk ferry will be used at the ferry line Ust-Luga Seaport – Kaliningrad Seaport (town of Baltiysk) – Sassnitz Seaport (Germany). The ferry is to call at Kaliningrad Seaport every week, according to the vessel call schedule.
In addition to the two marine cargo ferries Ambal and Saint-Petersburg also calling to Kaliningrad Seaport, the Baltiysk ferry will increase stability of marine transport communication between the Kaliningrad Region and other regions of Russia. It will also help to boost cargo turnover between Kaliningrad Seaport and seaports of the neighbouring countries.
The Baltiysk sea railway ferry named after the town in Kaliningrad Region was built in 1985 by Schichau Seebeckwerft A.G in Bremerhaven, Germany. The ferry was earlier known as Railship II, Finnrider and Rider.
