Port of Klaipėda signed Cooperation Agreements with major U.S. ports

A bilateral cooperation agreement between the port of Klaipėda and port of New Orleans was signed in the capital of Louisiana State. According to the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Lithuania, the signing parts committed to exchange trade statistics and help to disseminate information regarding port activities.

“This is the third agreement, signed over the years, between the U.S. and Klaipėda’s ports. It aims to promote Lithuania in the U.S. market as a transit country. Certainly, the bilateral agreement will produce new transatlantic trade flows to other regional markets through Lithuania, which has excellent intermodal transit infrastructure” – said Vice-Minister of Transport and Communications Arijandas Šliupas.

At the Roundtable meeting held with the New Orleans entrepreneurs, Vice-Minister of Lithuania and executive managers of Klaipėda Seaport underlined that Lithuania expects that U.S. cargo flows through Klaipėda Seaport will evolve. It is expected that the first liquefied natural gas terminal, which will start to operate at the end of this year, will receive liquefied gas from all over the world, possibly United States of America too.

In addition, cooperation and partnership agreement between Klaipėda State Seaport and port of Houston, located on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, was signed in Houston, the largest city of Texas State.

“Last year, Houston was acknowledged as the best city for business that opens an important door for energy trade in the U.S. and the world. Therefore, the agreement with this city on transport and business link development is very important,” – said Arijandas Šliupas.

According to the Vice-Minister, the partnership agreement between the port of Klaipėda and Houston will create new export opportunities, whereas U.S. export trading companies will learn more about the potential of Lithuanian transport infrastructure.
