There is a huge potential for development in the field of freight transportation and trade between the Federal State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Russia, Christian Pegel, the Federal State's Minister for Energy, Infrastructure and State Development said Thursday at St. Petersburg Logistics Days.
The conference was organized by the German-Finnish Chamber of Commerce, the Port of Hamburg and media group IAA PortNew.
"Mecklenburg-Vorpommern exports to Russia largely machinery, automobiles and cheese and imports from Russia gas, crude oil and various fertilizers", PortNews correspondent quoted Christian Pegel as sayng.
Trade flows are carried primarily on the ferry line Ust-Luga, Leningrad region – Sassnitz, Germany. "We are working hard to attract cargo to Russia", said Pegel.
Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in St. Petersburg Dr. Heike Peitsch also marked the Ust-Luga - Sassnitz ferry service as a positive example of cooperation between the two countries. "Many companies are working with St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, among them: Port of Sassnitz, Port of Hamburg and others," Mrs. Heike Peitch said.
