Finnish ship owners will be probably subsidized by the state for conversion of the ships to meet SECA and NECA requirements, IAA PortNews journalist cites General Director of the Finnish Transport Agency Juhani Tervala as saying Thursday at St. Petersburg Logistics Days conference.
The conference was organized by the German-Finnish Chamber of Commerce, the Port of Hamburg and media group IAA PortNews.
According to him, Finland is in a very difficult situation amid the introduction of NECA requirements from 2016 and SECA requirements from 2015. “I believe, the Finnish Shipowners' Association and our logistics specialist will find a solution. Ship owners could be subsidized by the state for conversion of the ships to meet the requirements on SOx and NOx emissions,” Mr. Tervala said.
As from January 1, 2015, the sulphur content of a ship’s bunkers must be 0.1% (down from the present 1.0%) in SECA (including the Baltic Sea and the North Sea).
