Depth of port Liepaja (Latvia) increased from 10 to 12 m
First phase of dredging works has been completed at the Port of Liepaja, the Liepaja Special Economic Zone Authority says in its press release. The depth in sectors 2.5 and 2.6 has been increased from 10 to 12 meters. Dredging is to be fully completed by the end of the year.
The contractor of the first phase of works is Strabag Wasserbau GmbH. The works which started in November 2013 are estimated at LVL 10.33 mln. To complete the phase, 750 cbm of material is to be extracted (15% of works).
The port of Liepaja is the third busiest port of Latvia. Half of its turnover is formed by oil products and dry loose cargo from CIS countries, mainly Belarus. In 2013, the port of Liepaja handled 4.84 mln tonnes of cargo.
