Throughput of port HaminaKotka (Finland) down 5.9% to 6.9 mln t in HI’14

In January-June 2014, the Port of HaminaKotka (Finland) handled 6,937,700 t of cargo (-5.9%, year-on-year), says press center of HaminaKotka Satama Oy.
In the reported period, exports declined by 3% to 4,754,600 t including 1.45 mln t of paper (+0.3%), 1.08 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+3.7%), 0.67 mln t of sawn timber (-4.1%), 0.63 mln t of timber (-9.1%), 0.59 mln t of dry bulk cargo (-6.1%), 0.17 mln t of general cargo (-19.6%), 0.17 mln t of other cargo (-10.9%). 

HI imports fell by 11.5% to 2,183,000 t including 0.84 mln t of general cargo (-12.9%), 0.63 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+14.6%), 0.3 mln t of timber (-38.8%), 0.29 mln t of dry bulk cargo (+6.7%), 0.12 mln t of other cargo (-34.1%). 

Transshipment of transit cargoes dropped by 9.9% to 1,888,200 t including 291,786 TEUs (-9.9%) and 38,455 automobiles (-32.4%).
The volume of internal transportation surged by 32.9% to 526,000 t. 

The Port of HaminaKotka Ltd is the biggest universal, export and transshipment port in Finland. Finland’s ports of Kotka (stevedoring company Kotkan Satama Oy) and Hamin (Haminan Satama Oy) merged on May 1, 2011. In 2013, throughput of the joined port fell by 3.6% to 14 mln tonnes.
The Port of Kotka is some 50 km from the Russian border, 280 km from St. Petersburg and 1,000 km from Moscow. Port of Kotka comprises ports of Mussalo, Hietanen, Kantasatama, berth Puolanlaituri (Polish berth), berth Halla, and also port premises Sunila. Port of Hamina is the eastern port of Finland located 35 km from the Russian border.
