Throughput of port Liepaja (Latvia) up 7.3% to 2.67 mt in HI’14
In January-June 2014, the port of Liepaja (Latvia) handled 2.67 mln t of cargo (+7.3%, year-on-year), IAA PortNews was informed by the port authority. Transshipment of grain climbed 1.6 times to 1.37 mln t, construction materials – by 25.5% to 261,100 t, timber – fell by 23% to 216,200 t.
The port’s container throughput declined by 12% to 1,909 TEUs. Transshipment of ro-ro cargo cargo surged by 30% to 17,186 units. Passenger turnover totaled 19,778 passengers. The number of calls - 721.
The port of Liepaja is the third busiest port of Latvia. Half of its turnover is formed by oil products and dry loose cargo from CIS countries, mainly Belarus. In 2013, the port of Liepaja handled 4.84 mln tonnes of cargo.
