Russian Government on July 22, 2014 signed an order (№ 1372-R) expanding the boundaries of the seaport of Posiet. This is aimed at attracting major global shipping liner companies to the port, as well as increasing the number of large tonnage ship calls, the government's press office said.
The port water body and land area limits extension will help increase the income of the Far East region and enhance the competitiveness of Russian sea ports of the Far East, the document reads.
Due to more large tonnage calls the water body part No 2 adjacent to the Slavyanka marine terminal was increased so that the terminal could accommodate ships of 400 meters in length with a draft of 17 meters (previously it was 245 meters / 15 meters).
Creation of offshore anchorage area for large vessels will allow loading / unloading of ships without moorings. Moreover, the harbour expansion will create additional offshore transshipment locations, which will contribute to the development of the port and region as a whole.
