Russian Transport Ministry is developing a new concept of transportation / logistics service availability on the Crimean peninsula. This will ensure the optimal solutions for transportation planning and future integration of the Crimea into a single transport system of the Russian Federation, Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov told the First Crimean Transport Forum in Alushta, the ministry press office reports.
Sokolov noted that the existing transport infrastructure of Crimea was basically created in the Soviet period and now no longer meets modern requirements for throughput capabilities, safety and technical equipment.
In recent years, the regional ports have seen a slump in cargo volumes and passenger traffic. There was a decline in air traffic. Local rail infrastructure suffered funding shortfall and needs major overhaul, as well as roads, the official said.
