Nuclear icebreakers of Atomflot complete escorting of Transshelf carrying two RF Navy submarines
Nuclear icebreaker Vaygach completed escorting of the semisubmercible ship Transshelf with two nuclear submarines onboard on September 18, 2014, press center of FSUE Atomflot says. The vessel owned by Dutch company Dockwise is on her way from Kamchatka to Severodvinsk.
Icebreaker 50 Let Pobedy started escorting the Transshelf in the East Siberian Sea on September 14. The Transshelf with her low ice class cannot pass the Northern Sea Route without icebreaker’s support. The icebreaker escorted the vessel up to ice-free waters of the Laptev Sea. From September 16, the Transshelf was moving independently. From the Vilkitski Strait up to the ice-free waters of the Kara Sea the Transshelf was escorted by the Vaygach icebreaker. The vessel is currently on the way towards Severodvinsk without icebreaking assistance.
