In January-September, 2014, Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg handled 6.2 mln t (+7%, year-on-year), press center of the stevedoring company says.
Transshipment of general cargo climbed by 8% to 4.6 mln t, dry bulk and loose cargo – by 5% to 1.6 mln t.
Transshipment of ferrous metal increased by 16% to 1.7 mln t.
The company says the growth was driven by exports from Russia’s iron and steel plants due to favorable market situation.
Handling of non-ferrous metal plunged by 25% to 0.9 mln t with major shippers having decreased supplies of aluminum.
The amount of vehicles (the core of which is constituted by imported passenger cars) dropped by 36% to 22,700 units.
The volume of mineral fertilizers has remained at the level of the previous year – 0.9 mln t.
The company also handled 13,100 t of food cargo.
In the 9-month period, exports via Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg climbed by 13% to 5.1 mln t while imports fell by 12% to 1.1 mln t. Transshipment of export/import cargo accounts for 82% and 18% respectively.
Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg OJSC (included in UCL Port – stevedoring division of the International transportation group UCL Holding) – is the largest operator, rendering services on handling of all types of dry cargoes in the Greater Port of Saint-Petersburg. It operates by modern specialized terminals for handling of ro-ro cargoes, cars and metals. In 2013 the turnover of OJSC “Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg” amounted to 7.8 mln. t of cargoes.
