In 2014, Russian Railways increased transportation of loaded and empty containers by 3.7%, year-on-year, to 3,213,600 TEUs, press center of Russian Railways says.
The highest growth was registered in the sector of domestic and transit transportation (+9.4% and +6.3% accordingly). Transit of loaded containers increased by 11.4%, export – by 10.9%, year-on-year. As compared with the pre-crisis year (2008), container transportation surged by 30.5% including 251,700 TEUs of transit (up 62.9%) and 846,400 TEUs of export (+40.9%).
Chemicals and soda account for 16.2% of total volumes, paper – 12.1%, automobiles – 10.6%, metalware – 9.1%.
In 2014, Russian Railways carried 2,162,100 of loaded large capacity containers including 349,200 TEUs of chemicals and soda (+9%, against 2013); paper – 261,700 TEUs (+14%); automobiles – 228,200 TEUs (-18.7%); metalware – 196,000 TEUs (+1.4%); industrial goods – 167,200 TEUs (+10.2%); machines and equipment – 140,600 TEUs (+1.9%); timber – 139,000 TEUs (+15.5%); non-ferrous metals – 96,000 TEUs (+2.7%); food – 91,700 TEUs (-0.7%); construction materials – 90,300 TEUs (+10.2%); mixed cargoes– 87,900 TEUs (-4.4%); ferrous metal – 84,400 TEUs (+2.8%); oil cargo – 75,600 TEUs (+2.6%); other cargoes – 154,300 TEUs (+12.3%).
