Throughput of port Azov down 12.3% to 313,000 t in Jan’15

In January 2015, seaport Azov handled 313,000 t of cargo (+12.3%, year-on-year), Harbor Master Vladimir Bragin told regional correspondent of IAA PortNews.

In the reported period, transshipment of grain dropped by 27.7% to 167,000 t, oil products – climbed by 26.5% to 62,000 t, coal – climbed by 25% to 70,000 t.

In January 2015, the Harbour Master’s Service of the port registered 101 incoming and 84 outgoing vessels against 111 and 106 vessels in January 2014.

Port of Azov is located on the banks of the Don river. It is a major gateway between the Mediterranean Sea with the inland waterway system of Russia and the Caspian. This allows delivering cargoes to the central part of Russia, the Urals and Central Asia. The depth at the berths is 4.5-8.5 m, the depth of the approach canal is 4 m. The port capable of handling sea-and-river going vessels with the capacity of up to 5,000 t operates round the year with icebreaking assistance provided in winter. The port’s capacity is 5-6 mln t of export/import cargo (metal, timber, grain, ore, fertilizers, construction materials and packaged goods).
