Cargo shipping by the Arctic container line proposed for establishment in Russia could make some 6 mln t per year, IAA PortNews journalist cites Vitaly Zbarashchenko, expert of the Executive Committee at the Transport Council of CIS Countries, as saying at the Conference “Transport Service Industry and Development of Far East Transport Infrastructure” in Moscow.
According to him, the line operating at the Northern Sea Route and connecting the northern ports of Russia’s European part with the Far East region should be services by 6 vessels. The line is be used for transportation of containers, fish and mineral resources.
Vitaly Zbarashchenko also suggested considering a possibility of arranging multimodal transportation from the north-west of China to the ports of the Baltic Basin and Arkhangelsk.
The expert said rail ferries should be built for long-distance transportations in the Far East Basin.
