The Maasvlakte terminals and the Port Authority have been working on an efficient system to transport containers between the various terminals since the beginning of 2014. In this connection, Rotterdam’s container stevedores APMT MVII, APMTR, ECT and RWG have made agreements with each other on container transport between their facilities, Port of Rotterdam Authority said in its press release.
The purpose of these agreements is to organise so-called interterminal transport on the Maasvlakte as efficiently as possible, in the interests of all links in the supply chain. Agreements have also been made on the organisation and execution of this transport. In that context, it has been agreed that, in the coming years, current employees of APMTR, ECT and Kramer will be deployed to transport containers over this closed transport route.
At the moment, two new container terminals are going into operation on the Maasvlakte. Large numbers of containers are expected to be exchanged between the terminals in the coming years. As use is made of a closed transport route that links the terminals with each other physically, it is possible to transport containers without documents from one customs area to another. In principle, it will be possible to deploy different modes of transport for the interterminal transport that will take place via this closed route.
In the period ahead, further details will be fleshed out with the parties involved, so that the agreements can take more concrete shape as quickly as possible.
