Freight traffic at Port of Skadovsk dive 78.5% to 6,000 tonnes

Handling of dry and liquid bulk cargo at the terminals of Kherson province, Ukraine based Skadovsk Merchant Sea Port in January-February 2015 totaled 6,000 tons, which represents a 78,5% decline on same period last year, Cetre for Transport Strategies (CTS) reports citing the Authority of Ukrainian Seaports.

In the reporting period the port handled 2,300 tonnes of petroleum products (no figures for the previous year), 3,000 thousand tonnes of grain (-29.9%) and 700 tonnes of perishable goods.

State-owned Skadovsk Merchant Sea Port based in Kherson region, specializes in large part in handling car / passenger ferries and car carriers bound for the Turkish ports. The port can move up to 500,000 tonnes of dry bulk, 100,000 tonnes of general and 100,000 tons of grain cargoes a year. The port ferry terminal can handle up to 20,000 semi-trailer trucks per year. The port is able to accommodate, load / unload simultaneously four Ro-Ro vessels, a 3,000dwt bulk carrier, a multipurpose 2,000dwt ship and a tanker (oil jetties under reconstruction). The port territory encompasses 11.12 ha (including terminals Genichesk and Khorly) with 800-m-long quay wall, one cargo area and six berths. In 2014 the port's throughput plummeted by 78.9% to 58,000 tonnes.
