Cargo transportation within Azov-Don River Basin down 35.9% to 5,714,000 t
As of August 27, 2015, cargo transportation within the area of responsibility of FSI Azov-Don Basin Authority totaled 5,714,000 t (-35.9%, year-on-year), the Basin Harbour Master Aleksandr Taranenko told IAA PortNews at the meeting of the Operation Headquarters in Rostov-on-Don.
According to him, transshipment of oil cargo (62% of total turnover) fell by 33.6% to 3,583,000 t; sulphur (14.2%) – by 28% to 813,000 t.
In the reported period, water transport of the Azov-Don River Basin carried 27,436 passengers (76.8% of the 2014 level).
The number of calls fell by 21.4%, year-on-year, to 4,043 units with tankers accounting for 59% of total number of calls.
Aleksandr Taranenko emphasized that the above results have been achieved amid the abnormally low level of water at the Nizhny Don.
Total length of waterways within the area of responsibility of FSI Azov-Don Basin Authority is 691.3 km.
