On August 26, 2015, the port management representatives from the port of Ghent (Belgium) and Zeeland Seaports (Netherlands) Daan Schalck and Jan Lagasse pay a working visit to the Freeport of Riga, accompanied by the delegation of businessmen.
The primary purpose of the visit is to strengthen contacts and trade between companies from the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal Zone and the Baltic countries. Due to the fact that one of the reasons for the visit is the desire to get acquainted with the business environment, as well as investment and cooperation opportunities of Latvia, during the visit the delegation was provided with a presentation on the possibilities in the field of cargo transshipment at the port, as well as on investment opportunities in the Freeport of Riga. The delegation was introduced to the current situation in the port, available business areas, as well as to port infrastructure and infrastructure development plans.
Particular attention was paid to transshipment of such cargo types as general cargo, liquid cargo, biomass, fertilizers, as well as agricultural products.
