To load Russia’s container terminals, throughput of which plunged amid negative economic developments, it would be reasonable to arrange transit of sanction goods via Russia to Kazakhstan, IAA PortNews journalist cites Aleksei Pavlov, Director General of Baltic Stevedoring Company, as saying at the 7th Inter Baltic Transport Forum in Kaliningrad.
According to him, such transit is not formally forbidden, though in practice state authorities opt for forwarding sanctioned goods for further destruction, as it is easier. Aleksei Pavlov believes organization of such transit would help load both BSC terminal and other terminals in Saint-Petersburg and Ust-Luga.
Meanwhile, head of Rosmorport’s North-West Basin Branch Andrei Moshkov said container throughput of BSC is expected to fall to some 90,000 TEUs in 2015, down 50%, year-on-year.
